2024 is expected to be another (hopefully) exciting year for RPG releases. This year will see a healthy combination of exciting new IPs and highly anticipated remakes that should be sure to leave our little RPG hearts satisfied. These are some of what we think are the most exciting RPGs releasing in 2024, and the ones we are going to be keeping our eyes closest on as the year continues.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

The ninth game in the series and the direct sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will release January 26th, 2024. Players should expect a return to the wacky gameplay and often times insanely hysterical minigames that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios RPGs have become known for. Prepare yourselves to explore the city of Honolulu with much of the returning cast from Yakuza: Like a Dragon in late January.
Avowed

Avowed is an upcoming RPG being developed by Obsidian and set in the world or Eora, which some may recognize from the Pillars of Eternity universe. Pillars of Eternity is a series of traditional CRPGs also developed by Obsidian that flaunt a top-down view and real-time with pause (RTwP) combat. We highly recommend checking these games out here. Avowed is Obsidian’s attempt to translate the Pillars of Eternity universe into the 3D space. While not a ton of gameplay has been released as of yet, early glimpses into Avowed’s combat and spell-casting system have looked very promising. At the time of writing, Avowed is scheduled for a 2024 release, however no exact date has been given. What we do know is that when it does release, Avowed will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass for all those taking advantage of that deal. Ultimately, we’re hoping Obsidian can make-due on their excellent track record and bestow upon us another great IP.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

The remake to 2004’s Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is set to release in 2024 for the Nintendo Switch. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door will be getting an improved visual and animation update that will allow anyone who either didn’t get to play the original on the GameCube, or who want to replay this Nintendo classic, the chance to do so in a fresh new coat of paint. No set date has been released as of this writing, except for that it is expected to drop sometime in 2024.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the highly anticipated sequel to the Final Fantasy VII Remake, will release February 29th 2024 on PlayStation 5. The second part of a planned trilogy of RPGs remaking the original Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will continue the story of the previous and return with an open-world experience as well as the live action combat that players came to love with the release of the first part of the trilogy back in 2020. PC players will have to wait until at least May 29th, 2024 to get the chance to play on their preferred platform.
Dragon’s Dogma 2

After a nearly 12 year wait from the release of the first game in the series, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will release March 22nd, 2024. Dragon’s Dogma 2 will allow your Arisen to choose between nine vocations (classes) to determine your unique playstyle while you explore an open world nearly 4x as large as the world of Dragon’s Dogma. We look forward to fighting monsters and dragons galore in the lands of the beastren and humanity.
Persona 3 Reload

Persona 3 Reload is releasing February 2nd, 2024 as a remake to the beloved Persona 3 (originally released in 2006). Persona 3 Reload should launch with quality of life and graphical updates that will hopefully bring the original into the modern era of gaming alongside it’s “big three” brother games Persona 4 and Persona 5, which each also got their respective reboot in recent years. If the major successes of those remakes is anything to go off of, then we have high hopes for this one dropping in early February.
Hades 2 (Early Access)

Hades is an all time favorite game of ours here at Gamertex, not only for the year of 2018 when it first released, but of all time. So don’t be too upset with us for getting really (preemptively) excited about the release of Hades 2, even if it is only planned to launch in early access, and even if we still have not been given an exact date for which this is happening. As of writing, Hades 2 is scheduled to release sometime in Q2 of 2024, which puts it between April and June. While not an RPG in the traditional sense, Hades 2 will combine roguelite and RPG elements as you battle in the underworld as the son of the devil himself. We anticipate Hades 2 to employ the same addictive gameplay loop and varied combat builds that made the first game so incredible to replay over and over again. For these reasons, Hades 2 easily makes our list for the most exciting RPGs releasing in 2024.
